Hi everyone!
I’m a career changer entering the finance profession, and I’m trying to figure out the best approach to continuing professional education.
There seem to be so many options and requirements — it’s a bit overwhelming!
What I’d love to know:
- How do you decide which courses to prioritize?
- Do you tie your CPE to a specific career goal, or keep it broad?
- Any recommendations for someone just starting out?
I’ve started browsing the LearnWorlds course catalog and there’s a lot of great content. Just not sure where to begin!
Welcome to the profession, @priya.deshmukh! My approach: I tie CPE directly to my specialization (standards & compliance) and allocate about 70% of my hours there, with 30% for exploratory topics. For someone starting out, I’d recommend the Ethics course as a universal foundation, then choose based on which area of practice interests you most.
As someone in academia, I’d add that continuous learning is about building T-shaped expertise — deep in one area, broad across many. Start by completing the foundational courses (Ethics, GAAP Essentials), then let your interests guide you. The CPE Planning course is specifically designed to help with this kind of strategic planning.
@suki.tanaka all great points!
